Who we are
Robotics For Youth (RFY) is a non profit organization (501c(3)) led by youth with the aim of promoting STEM amongst school children. It’s started out as a small venture and today RFY has over 80 active student volunteers promoting the organization's vision through expos, competitions and classes.
RFY firmly believes in giving opportunities to school age children to test their interest in robotics while giving our volunteers an opportunity to learn through teaching others. Hence we promote all activities under the First program (https://firstinspires.org), from mentoring to scrimmages preparing Northern Virginia teams for competition at state and national levels. We also partnered with World Robotics Olympiad (https://www.wro-usa.org) hosting the first ever VA,MD, DC championship in 2017 and this continues into 2018.
Our volunteers are also avid competitors participating in FIRST Robotics, World Robotic Olympiad and Drone AVUSI SUAS programs. In 2017/2018, RFY can proudly highlight multiple teams winning awards for First Tech Challenge(FTC) and First Lego League (FLL).
We have recently initiated a focused program for girls called “STEMPowering girls” that embodies our vision of having our youth volunteers grow through teaching young women while promoting STEM.
We encourage all students to give back to your communities through volunteer work. If you are especially passionate about STEM and specifically Robotics- give RFY a try. You will certainly grow and learn through your work with us and the leadership opportunities we offer. On a more practical side you can also earn volunteer hours.
